To be able to pick up the gold with the brush, the synthetic brush hairs need to be either statically charged on a plastic surface or they need to be slightly greased. By slightly we mean just a tiny little bit.
Cleaning & Care
To clean the brush hairs they can quickly be wiped off with a dry and clean kitchen towel (cloth/paper). The easiest way to do this is on a clean surface: lay down the brush and wipe off the hairs with the cloth, then turn the brush around and wipe off the other side of the hair. The special brush for gold leaf application is again ready to use.
Never work with a wet or oily brush. The gold leaf will stick to the brush and cannot be applied. With a little water and dish soap you can deep clean the brush. Then allow to dry well overnight.
With loose gold leaf, the gold leaves are inserted into a booklet made of extra thin paper. Thereby, the gold leaves lie loose on the individual pages and can easily be removed and processed with a special brush for gold leaf.
The same applies to gold leaf transfer, where the sheets of gold are first inserted into a booklet. But now the big difference: with gold leaf transfer, the gold is pressed onto the extra thin paper until it adheres.
To process gold leaf transfer, you take the gold leaf along with the paper out of the booklet and place it on the food with the gold side down, just like a temporary tattoo. By applying gentle pressure to the back of the backing paper, the gold comes off and sticks to the food.
